Beaches near Kuta Lombok

Kuta sits in the middle of Lombok’s south coast, in the Mandalika area, with a string of bays on either side. Most are 10 to 45 minutes away by scooter or car. These are the ones our guests ask about most, with rough times from La Casa Bonita.

Kuta beach

The town beach is about five minutes from the villa. Since the Mandalika development it has a long promenade, so it is the easiest place for a swim, a sunset walk or a coconut without planning anything.

East of Kuta

Heading east, the road follows the coast towards Gerupuk bay. Times are approximate and depend on traffic.

Seger beach: about 10 minutes. Quiet, with a hill for views over the bay.
Tanjung Aan: about 15 minutes. Wide white sand and calm turquoise water, good for swimming.
Bukit Merese: next to Tanjung Aan. A grassy hill, very popular at sunset.
Gerupuk: about 20 to 25 minutes. A fishing village where boats take surfers out to the breaks in the bay.

West of Kuta

To the west the road climbs over hills between bays. It is a beautiful drive, with some steep sections.

Mawun: about 15 to 20 minutes. A sheltered, horseshoe bay that is usually good for swimming.
Mawi: about 25 to 30 minutes. Known for surf; the water can be rough for swimming.
Semeti: about 30 minutes. Striking volcanic rock formations, better for photos than for a swim.
Selong Belanak: about 35 to 45 minutes. A long, gentle bay, popular for beginner surf lessons.

Getting to the beaches

Most guests rent a scooter for a few days; it is the most flexible way to explore, and at La Casa Bonita you can leave it in the private parking. If you would rather not ride, a driver for the day is easy to arrange in town.

Some beaches charge a small parking fee and local sellers may offer sunbeds or drinks. Carry cash, water and sun protection, and check conditions before swimming, as currents change with the tide and season.
